Captured at a French festival in 1960, this ferocious set features Eric Dolphy and a guest appearance by pianist Bud Powell. The stripped-down, predominantly piano-less quartet format pushes the musicians into fiercely intense, blues-rooted improvisations driven entirely by Mingus's commanding bass work.
