Album Notes & Community Reviews

Trumpeter Charles Sullivan's debut album as a leader is a masterful, deeply soulful document of 1970s post-bop released on the independent Strata-East label. Featuring a heavyweight lineup that includes Stanley Cowell and Sonny Fortune, the record delivers expansive, rhythmically urgent modal jazz with occasional vocal and funk flourishes. 'Genesis' remains a widely celebrated triumph of the era's independent jazz movement.
