Reuniting exactly a decade after their initial disbandment, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards modernized their immaculate disco-funk sound for the 1990s. 'Chic-Ism' incorporates slick, contemporary R&B production and upbeat garage house elements while retaining the duo's signature, razor-sharp rhythm guitar interplay and thumping basslines. Despite the flawless musicianship, the album struggled to find a significant commercial foothold in an era dominated by grunge and gangsta rap.
