Chico Hamilton Quintet in Hi Fi

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Introducing a highly unusual, delicate instrumentation featuring cello and flute alongside a traditional rhythm section, the innovative drummer pioneers a deeply intellectual, classical-leaning aesthetic. The intricate, heavily contrapuntal arrangements demand nuanced ensemble interaction, blending the structural rigor of chamber music with a light, remarkably airy swing. It stands as a pivotal, fiercely original masterpiece of the West Coast jazz movement.
