Album Notes & Community Reviews
Cut on 13 July 1954, six weeks after Barber's split from Ken Colyer, the eight tracks of 'New Orleans Joys' present his new band with Pat Halcox on trumpet, Monty Sunshine on clarinet and Lonnie Donegan on banjo. Two tracks were given to the Lonnie Donegan Skiffle Group, whose versions of Lead Belly's 'Rock Island Line' and 'John Henry' helped ignite the British skiffle boom.
