Recorded without their bassist, 'Victorialand' is a strikingly calm, drumless exploration of ambient pop and ethereal wave. The album relies entirely on Robin Guthrie's heavily echoed acoustic and electric guitars to create a freezing, wintery atmosphere beneath Elizabeth Fraser's soaring, glossolalic vocals. It is a profoundly peaceful, mysterious triumph of modern atmospheric music.
