Retreating to his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska following a grueling medical scare, the Bright Eyes frontman recorded this album entirely raw and unadorned in just a few days. Stripping his sound down to merely acoustic guitar, piano, and harmonica, the record highlights his devastatingly poetic and brutally vulnerable lyricism regarding illness and isolation. It acts as an incredibly intimate, stark return to form for the acclaimed songwriter.
