Gangsta's Paradise

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Driven immensely by its iconic, Stevie Wonder-sampling title track, 'Gangsta's Paradise' launched Coolio into massive international superstardom while bridging hardcore West Coast aesthetics with mainstream pop sensibilities. Beyond the radio singles, the record explores surprisingly thoughtful, socially conscious narratives regarding inner-city life, avoiding the pure glorification typical of the era's gangsta rap scene. The album remains a defining cultural artifact of 1990s hip-hop commercialization.
