A collaborative work, 'Mariner' merges the dense, atmospheric post-metal of Cult of Luna with the dynamic vocal performance of Julie Christmas, which ranges from melodic passages to harsh screams. The album’s songwriting explores themes of space exploration and the unknown through sprawling compositions, with the band's powerful instrumentation developed in Sweden and Christmas's lyrics and vocals recorded separately in the United States to create the cohesive, critically-lauded result.
