Way Down

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A vital document of the often-overlooked West Coast hard bop scene, 'Way Down' features saxophonist Curtis Amy leading a superb sextet that includes vibraphonist Roy Ayers. The album completely rejects the 'cool' stereotype of Californian jazz, delivering intensely driving, blues-heavy improvisations. Amy's robust tenor tone and intricate compositions prove the depth and grit of the Los Angeles jazz underground.
