The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Self-produced and released on his own Maraqopa imprint, Damien Jurado delivers an exceptionally dry, starkly arranged collection of acoustic storytelling. The album portrays a cast of deeply flawed, emotionally exhausted characters, heavily emphasizing his melancholic baritone voice and minimalist acoustic picking over very subtle, dry percussion. It stands as a profound, understated masterclass in empathetic folk songwriting.
