Brian Burton's groundbreaking mashup project painstakingly layers Jay-Z's a cappella vocals from 'The Black Album' over instrumental loops constructed entirely from The Beatles' 'White Album'. Despite receiving a cease-and-desist order from EMI, the unauthorized record sparked an enormous internet distribution campaign that fundamentally altered the discourse surrounding copyright and digital remix culture.
