Heroes
by David Bowie
The second installment of the Berlin Trilogy, 'Heroes' was the only album in the series recorded entirely in the city, capturing the zeitgeist of the Cold War. Co-created with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti, the album builds on the ambient, electronic sound of 'Low' but injects more passionate vocal performances and optimistic tones, splitting its structure between rock-oriented tracks and instrumental pieces. The album's distinctive sound is heavily defined by Robert Fripp's innovative and spontaneously recorded guitar work, which complements Bowie's improvisational lyrical approach and the charged atmosphere of Hansa Studio, located near the Berlin Wall.
