Rock On

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Propelled to global success by its stark, incredibly minimalist title track, the British pop idol's debut album is a fascinating, slightly subversive entry into the glam rock era. Eschewing heavy guitar distortion, the highly atmospheric production relies heavily on booming, sparse basslines, haunting string arrangements, and Essex's detached, echoing vocal delivery. It successfully forged a uniquely moody, avant-garde path within the mainstream pop charts.
