Album Notes & Community Reviews

This eponymous debut radically altered the trajectory of American acoustic music by codifying a new subgenre often referred to as 'Dawg music'. Mandolinist David Grisman leads a phenomenal quintet鈥攊ncluding a young Tony Rice on guitar鈥攖hrough a blistering, energetic synthesis of traditional bluegrass, swing, and gypsy jazz. The virtuosic improvisations set an incredibly high technical standard for progressive string bands.
