The preeminent alto saxophonist delivered a highly polished, commercially formidable showcase of heavily R&B-inflected contemporary jazz. Produced by Michael Colina and featuring a prominent cadre of top-tier session musicians, 'As We Speak' perfectly integrates Sanborn's blistering, emotional soloing within incredibly slick, synthesized arrangements. It was a massive success, effectively defining the parameters of the emerging smooth jazz radio format.
