Buhloone Mindstate

Album Notes & Community Reviews

As their final collaboration with producer Prince Paul, 'Buhloone Mindstate' presents a more focused, sonically ambitious, and jazz-infused sound compared to De La Soul's previous efforts. The album masterfully blends warm, live instrumentation from jazz veterans like Maceo Parker with intricate sampling and crisp production, creating a relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere. This musical direction supports the album's core thematic statement against commercialism in Black music, encapsulated by the recurring declaration that their work "might blow up, but it won't go pop."
