Rose Clouds of Holocaust
by Death in June
Douglas Pearce continued to refine his deeply controversial, remarkably sparse acoustic neofolk aesthetic. The album relies heavily on solitary acoustic guitar strumming, subtle bell chimes, and heavily reverberated, cryptic poetry exploring themes of European history, paganism, and existential decay. Its remarkably bleak, intimately recorded atmosphere solidified the group's highly polarizing, cult-like status in the underground post-industrial scene.
