Following the abrasive garage-rock of its predecessor, 'Fading Frontier' presents a significant sonic shift for Deerhunter, embracing a more accessible and texturally complex production style guided by Ben H. Allen. Songwriting themes of mortality and perspective, informed by frontman Bradford Cox's recovery from a serious car accident, are conveyed with a newfound clarity and melodic focus. The result is a strikingly balanced album that marries the band鈥檚 experimental tendencies, featuring collaborators from Stereolab and Broadcast, with some of their most direct and brightly layered pop compositions.
