Recorded entirely in a small Los Angeles home studio using borrowed vintage equipment, Banhart's eighth album marks a notably stripped-down, eclectic turn. He abandons his sprawling 'freak folk' tendencies for warmly intimate, poetic, and rhythmically gentle indie pop compositions.
