Standing out uniquely within the independent label's roster, this entirely instrumental album pushes post-punk textures into deeply atmospheric, jazz-inflected territory. 'Extractions' replaces traditional vocal leads with Richard Thomas's expressive saxophone work and intricate, delay-soaked guitar interplay, occasionally aided by Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie on production. The deeply hypnotic, dub-influenced rhythms anticipated the emergence of post-rock by nearly a decade.
