Mixed by Big Apple Records buyer Hatcha, 'Dubstep Allstars Vol. 1' was the first release to carry the word dubstep, fixing the name of the dark, swung Croydon garage sound in print. Its nineteen tracks gather the scene's founders, among them Horsepower Productions, El-B, Kode9, a teenage Benga and Skream, and Benny Ill, recorded in the orbit of the FWD>> night.
