Symphony No.5

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Conducted by Bernard Haitink with the Concertgebouworkest, this digital recording offers a monumental, structurally pristine reading of Shostakovich's most famous and politically loaded symphony. The performance is widely praised for its lack of exaggerated histrionics, instead emphasizing the profound architectural brilliance, crushing orchestral weight, and lingering ambiguity of the score. It remains a highly respected reference recording of the 20th-century classical canon.
