Album Notes & Community Reviews

Conducted with immense ferocity by Dimitri Mitropoulos, this recording wrestles with the monumental, politically fraught scale of Shostakovich's most famous symphony. The New York Philharmonic delivers the brutal, marching rhythms and soaring, desolate string passages with terrifying precision. It remains a historically significant and emotionally searing interpretation of 20th-century Russian orchestral music.
