Album Notes & Community Reviews
Releasing their debut on the highly influential Kranky label, Doldrums actively rejected traditional guitar-rock dynamics in favor of expansive, heavily hypnotic improvisation. 'Secret Life of Machines' relies intensely on repeating Krautrock motorik rhythms and vast, echoing waves of psychedelic dissonance. The album successfully pioneered a particularly atmospheric, deeply spaced-out variant of the mid-90s American post-rock explosion.
