Album Notes & Community Reviews
Continuing his ambitious explorations into gospel and large-scale orchestration, the trumpeter teams up with arranger Coleridge-Perkinson to weave hard bop improvisation into a spiritual framework. The album features a soaring choir and a robust brass section, creating an imposing, church-like atmosphere that surrounds Byrd's piercing solos. It is a bold, highly conceptual effort that expands the traditional Blue Note sound.
