Album Notes & Community Reviews

Gugulethu Duma and Kerim Melik Becker recorded their debut as Dumama & Kechou across Cape Town and Johannesburg in early 2019, building eight tracks from loops, uhadi, guembri and calabash around Duma's vocals. The album narrates a woman's liberation, from prison into the wilderness, and features Angel Bat Dawid's clarinet on 'Uveni'. The duo describe the result as magical realism prayer music and nomadic futuristic folk.
