Album Notes & Community Reviews
Seeking to follow up her legendary Memphis recordings, the iconic British vocalist traveled to Philadelphia to collaborate closely with the emerging songwriting/production team of Gamble and Huff. The arrangements introduce lush, sophisticated string orchestrations to her flawless, emotive pop-soul phrasing, essentially laying the absolute foundation for the Philly Soul explosion. Despite the phenomenal vocal performances, the record surprisingly underperformed commercially upon its release.
