On

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Releasing their highly anticipated sophomore effort at the dizzying height of the Britpop frenzy, Echobelly expanded their sound significantly on 'On'. The album paired their signature Smiths-indebted indie jangle with remarkably polished, stadium-ready hooks and bolder, more muscular production. Frontwoman Sonya Madan's lyrical exploration of racism, class structure, and gender expectations provided a much-needed critical edge to the often politically vacant Britpop landscape.
