Produced by Mudrock and recorded at Maple Street Studio in Santa Ana, 'Obsession' is Eighteen Visions' fifth and most commercially successful album, selling 200,000 copies. Its three singles, 'Waiting for the Heavens', 'I Let Go', and 'Tower of Snakes', each received a music video, and the record was the band's last for their longtime independent label before signing to Epic.
