Album Notes & Community Reviews

Otto Preminger's film about a heroin-addicted drummer gave Elmer Bernstein the first Academy Award nomination of his career and the first of his scores to receive a commercial album release. The jazz sequences were arranged and played by Shorty Rogers and His Giants with Shelly Manne on drums, and Saul Bass's jagged-arm design fronts both the film poster and the sleeve.
