Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during his transitional period just before leaving John Coltrane's ensemble, 'And Then Again' captures Elvin Jones leading a diverse, horn-heavy post-bop group. Featuring prominent contributions from J.J. Johnson and Frank Wess, the album highlights Jones's mastery of explosive, deeply swinging polyrhythms backing complex, riff-based compositions. It demonstrates his formidable ability to steer advanced hard bop frameworks from the drum kit.
