Elvin!

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as his debut album as a bandleader, 'Elvin!' introduces the polyrhythmic complexity that would soon make Elvin Jones the definitive drummer of the post-bop era. Featuring his brothers Hank and Thad Jones, the record is firmly rooted in the hard bop tradition while hinting at the freer, more propulsive playing he would later explore with John Coltrane. It establishes his unique ability to function as a lead instrumental voice from behind the kit.
