Marking his artistic rebirth after a decade of film soundtracks, 'From Elvis in Memphis' saw Presley bypass RCA's studios to work with producer Chips Moman and the house band at American Sound Studio. The sessions yielded a raw, contemporary country-soul sound, merging a diverse song selection with the organic, groove-based playing of the "Memphis Boys." This potent backdrop, rich with organ, dobro, and horns, framed some of Presley's most impassioned and mature vocal performances, re-establishing him as a vital recording artist.
