Backed by prominent session musicians, including an uncredited Neil Young on guitar, the Canadian songwriter delivered a raw, deeply emotive debut. Her raspy, unpolished vocal style and the record's hazy, acid-folk instrumentation perfectly captured the countercultural zeitgeist of late-sixties Los Angeles.
