Conducted by Bruno Nicolai, Morricone's score for Sergio Corbucci's snowbound western runs thirteen tracks and just under thirty-five minutes, its flute and guitar lines matching the film's muted, end-of-the-line fatalism. Morricone himself rated it his finest western score outside the Leone films, and its reputation has grown with the film's own.
