Album Notes & Community Reviews
Marcel Pérès founded Ensemble Organum in 1982 to recover the sound of medieval liturgical chant, and this programme reconstructs the Mozarabic rite as it was sung at Toledo Cathedral in the fifteenth century. The chant of Christian Spain survived in only a handful of Toledo parishes after the Roman rite displaced it elsewhere, making the recording a document of a nearly lost tradition.
