Album Notes & Community Reviews

In an attempt to modernize her classic rhythm and blues style, the legendary vocalist fully embraced the aggressive, syncopated aesthetics of the burgeoning funk movement. The tracks feature highly rhythmic, brass-heavy Chicago soul arrangements that provide the perfect, hard-hitting backdrop for her famously gritty, powerhouse vocal deliveries. It remains a tremendously powerful, highly energized transition in her extensive discography.
