Non al denaro non all'amore né al cielo

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Non al denaro non all'amore né al cielo', Fabrizio De André freely adapts Edgar Lee Masters's "Spoon River Anthology", transposing its posthumous epitaphs into character studies that examine envy and science. The collaboration with composer Nicola Piovani results in intricate and sophisticated arrangements that move beyond folk, incorporating orchestral flourishes, progressive rock complexity, and excerpts from Vivaldi. De André's lyrics, co-written with Giuseppe Bentivoglio, give voice to anonymous figures like 'A Judge' and 'A Chemist', creating a profound reflection on the vices and virtues that define a life.
