God's Favorite Customer
by Father John Misty
Written during a two-month period where Josh Tillman was living out of a hotel following personal turmoil, his fourth album largely strips away the grandiose sociopolitical satire of its predecessor. Returning to a more intimate, piano-driven 1970s singer-songwriter aesthetic, the record wrestles candidly with profound isolation, marital strain, and depression. It is highly regarded as his most emotionally direct and least cynical work.
