Album Notes & Community Reviews
Released during an incredibly turbulent period just prior to the devastating military raid on his Kalakuta Republic compound, this album captures Fela Kuti's politically charged sound at its most potent. Driven by massive, relentlessly syncopated brass sections and complex polyrhythms, the record functions both as a spiritual invocation and a fiery act of political defiance. It seamlessly fuses heavy American funk dynamics with deep West African musical traditions.
