Album Notes & Community Reviews

As the only album Fred Jackson ever recorded as a leader, 'Hootin' 'n Tootin'' is an unsung gem of the Blue Note soul jazz catalog. Backed by an organ trio, Jackson delivers a fat, gritty rhythm and blues tone on the tenor saxophone, emphasizing relentless, hypnotic grooves over harmonic complexity. It remains a highly sought-after session for its pure, unadulterated club-style energy.
