Album Notes & Community Reviews

The debut outing from the legendary New York duo introduces the potent chemistry between Guru's monotone, socially conscious rhymes and DJ Premier's burgeoning production skills. While the beats are noticeably more rudimentary than their later masterpieces, the foundational elements of their pioneering jazz-rap fusion are clearly present. It established their philosophical approach and anti-pop ethos in the golden age of East Coast hip-hop.
