Originally conceived in 1971, this profoundly moving, feature-length expansion of the minimalist masterpiece utilizes a tape loop of an unknown tramp singing a religious hymn. As the loop repeats over 74 minutes, Bryars gradually introduces increasingly lush, sweeping orchestral arrangements, culminating in a poignant vocal accompaniment by Tom Waits.
