Album Notes & Community Reviews
Drawing massive, inescapable comparisons to The Smiths, the London quartet debuted with a remarkably polished, intensely romantic iteration of classic British indie pop. Martin Rossiter's highly theatrical, crooning vocal delivery is perfectly matched by Steve Mason's sweeping, Johnny Marr-esque guitar jangle. Despite the heavy critical pastiche accusations, the remarkably melodic, emotionally charged songwriting earned them significant Top 10 chart success during the Britpop boom.
