On his second album as a leader for Blue Note, trombonist and composer Grachan Moncur III continues to chart a highly original path through the avant-garde. Leading a legendary lineup that includes Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, Moncur crafts music that is mysterious, slow-burning, and evocative of ancient rituals. It's a key work from the free jazz movement as it evolved beyond explosive energy toward more esoteric and contemplative territory.
