Blu Wav

by Grandaddy

Blu Wav cover art

On 'Blu Wav', Grandaddy fuses its titular portmanteau of bluegrass and new wave into a focused set of introspective, country-inflected ballads. Frontman Jason Lytle's production centers on waltz tempos and, for the first time, prominent pedal steel guitar, creating a placid and melancholic backdrop for his wryly sorrowful lyrics about loss and loneliness. The band's first album since the passing of bassist Kevin Garcia, the restrained and cohesive work is often regarded as a poignant, and possibly final, chapter in their catalog.
