Album Notes & Community Reviews
Stepping away from Blue Note for a brief stint at Verve, Grant Green delivers a deeply rhythmic, highly accessible set of soul-jazz on 'His Majesty King Funk'. Bolstered by the heavy Hammond organ playing of Larry Young, Green lays back into infectious, dance-oriented vamps rather than dense bebop improvisations. The album points directly toward the heavily sampled funk-jazz direction he would pursue in the 1970s.
