Serving as the legendary jam band's final studio album, 'Built to Last' is uniquely characterized by its heavy reliance on MIDI instrumentation and distinct lack of full-band, live-in-the-studio recording. The tracks were largely built via separate overdubs, resulting in a highly polished, heavily synthesized AOR sound. Brent Mydland contributed heavily to the songwriting, delivering some of his most personal and poignant material.
