Art Angels

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Art Angels,' Grimes pivots from the ethereal textures of her previous work to a brighter, more confrontational art-pop sound that is both accessible and sonically complex. Boucher wrote, performed, and produced the entire album herself, layering live instruments like guitar and violin over meticulously crafted electronic beats to create a record that is simultaneously polished and aggressive. The album, which includes features from Janelle Monáe and Aristophanes, was a widespread critical success, lauded for its genre-bending ambition and its powerful assertion of creative control.
